Completing the Trifecta: Verdi's 'La Traviata' From the Vienna State Opera

Introduction to 'La Traviata"

THE HIT SINGLE: "Sempre libera"

THE HIT SINGLE: 'Sempre libera'

Act One ends with Violetta (soprano Natalie Dessay) singing her signature aria "Sempre libera" ("Forever free"), extolling the virtues of a carefree, libertine lifestyle. But there's also a glimpse of her future when Alfredo (tenor Charles Castronovo) joins in describing the joys of true love.

THE B SIDE: 'Di Provenza il mar'

The second act features some of Verdi's finest music, including the tender aria "Di Provenza il mar," sung by Giorgio Germont (baritone Fabio Capitanucci) to comfort his son Alfredo, after Violetta leaves him.
