Two different concerts by the Western Piedmont Symphony of North Carolina provide the performances for this edition of the program. From February 2012 section leaders Dmitri Pogorelov and Ai Ishida step forward on violin and viola for the famous Sinfonia concertante by Mozart, with symphonies by Haydn and Beethoven as bookends. Then from February of 2011 there’s the regional premiere of a new work by composer Meira Warshauer drawing on her Jewish heritage and the role of the traditional instrument, the shofar.
