One Cinderella to Rule Them All: Rossini's 'La Cenerentola'

THE HIT SINGLE: "No Longer Sad"

In the opera's final scene, Cinderella (mezzo-soprano Serena Malfi) is left to decide the fate of her abusive family. She begins by recalling her past, singing "Nacqui all'affanno" ("I was born into pain and tears"). Eventually, though, she forgives everyone, then sings the spectacular aria 'Non piu mesta' -- 'No longer sad' -- with the chorus joining in to praise her generosity.

THE B SIDE:  "A Sweet Something"

When Prince Ramiro (tenor Edgardo Rocha) first meets Cinderella, in Act One, he's in disguise. In the duet "Un soave non so che" they approach each other tentatively, but before long the sparks are flying.
